What is Manta Melody?

Manta Melody is a 3D underwater adventure where you glide freely in every direction and use sound instead of weapons. Five worlds, Coral Awakening, Whispering Kelp, Sunken Echoes, The Silent Deep and Heart of the Ocean, each hold four missions, and the fourth one returns an Ocean Note that sweeps the grey scenery back into colour in a six-second camera pan. After that the world opens for Free Swim, with no objectives and no damage, so you can simply explore.

How to play Manta Melody

Goal: Bring back all five Ocean Notes, finish with Harmony in mission 20 so the sleeping whale wakes and sings, and collect 60 stars along the way.

  1. Choose a mission on the world map. Each one opens with a short camera sweep and a subtitle line that you can skip after a quarter of a second.
  2. Glide with WASD, the arrow keys or the left stick, rise with Space or E and sink with C or Q. On a phone, the right slider moves you up and down.
  3. Follow the compass chip under the objective. It points to the next target and shows the distance in metres.
  4. Press J or the Sonar button near a glowing object. A 16 m ring spreads out, and targets within reach answer it.
  5. Finish every objective and a light portal appears. Swim into it to see your stars and score.

Tips & tricks

  1. Save Dash for current-ring routes: it costs 30 Resonance, and each ring already adds 4 m/s for 0.7 s, so chaining rings is cheaper than dashing.
  2. In The Silent Deep, pulse sonar just to see. Every pulse lights the water around you for a moment, even when nothing is in range.
  3. A checkpoint is set after every two finished objectives. If you are low on scallops, finish one more objective before trying a risky shortcut.
  4. Escorted friends never get hurt and just wait when you swim more than 11 m ahead, so scout for shards first and come back for them.
  5. For the time star, look for shards that sit on your path. Detours for the last one can cost more seconds than the target time allows.

Frequently asked questions

Who do you play as in Manta Melody on ZotaGame?

On ZotaGame you swim as a purple manta ray whose wing tips glow lime green. Other sites show a dolphin or a beluga calf, but only the look changes: all three share the same 1.1 m collision sphere, the same 5.4 m/s cruise speed and the same sonar, so stars and scores mean the same everywhere.

How is the score counted in Manta Melody?

Every finished mission starts at 500 points. Each objective adds 100, each Echo Shard 25, a guided friend 150 and an Ocean Note 400. Every second under the target time adds 2 more, and each return to a checkpoint takes 100 away. Mission 4 cleared in 35 seconds with all three shards scores 1,445.

What do the current rings do in Manta Melody?

Swimming through a current ring, within about 5 m of its centre, gives an extra 4 m/s for 0.7 seconds. Some objectives ask you to pass a whole line of rings in order, and the boost from one carries you toward the next. Ordinary currents in the open water only push sideways and never cost a scallop.

How do you find your way in the dark missions of Manta Melody?

Missions 13 and 16 in The Silent Deep are filled with thick or pulsing darkness. Each sonar pulse lights the water around you for a moment, the swimmer always keeps a soft rim light, and the compass chip still points at the next target with its distance in metres.

What is Free Swim in Manta Melody?

Free Swim opens in a world once its fourth mission brings back the Ocean Note and the colour returns. You can explore the restored reefs, kelp or ruins with no objectives, no timer and no damage. It does not change your stars or score, so it is a calm way to look around after the work is done.

How does Dash work in Manta Melody?

Press K or Shift, or the Dash button on a touch screen, to shoot forward at 12 m/s for 0.65 seconds. It costs 30 of your 100 Resonance and needs 1.4 seconds before it can be used again. Resonance refills at 12 per second, the same pool that sonar draws from.
