What is Koi Moon Tiles?

Koi Moon Tiles is a pair-matching tile game, a calm take on mahjong solitaire: tap two free tiles that show the same face and they drift off the water, until the pond is empty. The 38 faces are koi, lotus and lantern tiles from 1 to 9, moon phases, pond animals and four blossoms that all pair with one another. Stacks get taller over three chapters, and on Misty Shore buried tiles keep their faces hidden. No clock runs and undo costs nothing, so each pond is a puzzle you can think through at your own pace.

How to play Koi Moon Tiles

Goal: Empty the pond by removing every tile in matching pairs.

  1. Look for tiles that are free: nothing sits on top of them and at least the left or the right edge is open.
  2. Tap one free tile, then another free tile with the same face; the pair floats away and may uncover tiles below.
  3. Blossoms are the exception: a plum, camellia, chrysanthemum or orchid pairs with any other blossom.
  4. If no pair is left, take moves back with Undo or press Shuffle to re-deal the remaining tiles into a clearable pond.
  5. Finish without Hint or Shuffle for 3 stars; using up to two of them still gives 2.

Tips & tricks

  1. Count the copies before you take a pair: if all four of a face are free, any two will do; if only two are, check what they cover first.
  2. Work down the tallest stack early, because its top tiles hold the most tiles in place.
  3. On Misty Shore, a hidden tile becomes readable the moment it is free, so open the stack that hides the most faces first.
  4. Keep one blossom pair for last: two blossoms always match, which makes them a safe way to close out a pond.
  5. Undo before you shuffle. Going back three or four pairs often reveals a better order and keeps your 3 stars.

Frequently asked questions

Why can't I pick some tiles in Koi Moon Tiles?

Those tiles are not free. A tile can be picked only when no other tile lies across it and either its left or its right edge is clear. Tapping a blocked tile plays a soft knock and shows a short message instead of selecting it.

Which tiles count as a pair in Koi Moon Tiles?

Two tiles with exactly the same face, such as two koi 7 tiles or two full moons. The only exception is the four blossom tiles with a gold ring: any blossom pairs with any other blossom, even a plum with an orchid.

What is different about the Misty Shore chapter of Koi Moon Tiles?

Levels 21 to 30 are covered in mist. A tile that is buried or boxed in shows only a wave pattern, and its face is revealed when it becomes free. You plan by the shape of the stacks rather than by the pictures you can see.

Is it possible to get stuck in Koi Moon Tiles?

You can run out of free pairs, but you cannot lose the level. A sheet offers Shuffle, Undo and Restart. Shuffle rebuilds the remaining tiles into an order that can always be cleared, while Undo simply walks your last pairs back.

Does Undo cost stars in Koi Moon Tiles?

No. Undo is unlimited and never touches your rating. Stars only depend on Hint and Shuffle: none gives 3 stars, a total of one or two gives 2 stars, and three or more gives 1 star.

How big do the ponds get in Koi Moon Tiles?

The first level has 20 tiles on a single layer. Ponds grow chapter by chapter until level 30, which has 68 tiles stacked up to four layers high, with tiles in the middle buried the deepest.
