What is Neon Rebound?

Neon Rebound is a 3D ricochet tank game in which you steer a violet hex hover-tank through 17 × 13 tile mazes and knock out robot tanks with plasma bolts that bounce off the walls. A bolt is allowed 2 bounces in the first arenas and 6 in the last chapter, and a single hit ends any tank, so a careless rebound can take out your own. Thirty arenas run from a toy yard to a grand circuit guarded by a gold Champion, with Quick Duels and a 2-player match on one keyboard.

How to play Neon Rebound

Goal: Clear all 30 arenas with 40% of the clock left and at least one bank-shot knockout in each, which earns 3 stars apiece and 90 in total.

  1. Pick an arena on the level map. The first time a new idea appears, from bank shots on level 1 to the Champion on level 30, a short card explains it.
  2. Steer with WASD or the arrow keys and point the twin barrels with the mouse. On a touch screen, drag on the left half and the turret turns with you.
  3. Fire with a click, Space, F or J; on touch, hold FIRE. Up to 3 of your bolts can be on the field at once, one every 0.9 seconds.
  4. Bank bolts off the walls to reach bots behind cover, and slide away after each shot so your own rebound does not find you.
  5. Knock out every robot tank before the clock runs out. The result card shows knockouts, bank-shot knockouts, accuracy and stars.

Tips & tricks

  1. On levels 1 to 3 the dashed line shows exactly where your bolt will travel. Turn it on for every level in Settings while you learn the angles.
  2. Bots wait 1.5 seconds before their first shot, and 8 seconds on level 1. Use that pause to move into a lane where a wall can carry your bolt to them.
  3. The violet Scatter fan fires three bolts 18 degrees apart for 10 seconds; in a narrow corridor the outer bolts often come straight back, so fire it across open floor.
  4. Pick up a Pulse charge on levels 23 and 29 and save it: one press flips every enemy bolt heading at you from within a tile and a half.
  5. Portals keep a bolt's direction. Fire into the cyan ring and the bolt leaves the violet one on the same heading, which reaches bots that no wall angle can.

Frequently asked questions

Which tank do you drive in Neon Rebound on ZotaGame?

On ZotaGame you drive a violet hex hover-tank with a lime skirt, a wedge turret, twin barrels and tail fins. Other sites show a different tank, but only the look changes: the 0.65 hitbox radius, the speed and the 0.9-second fire rate are the same everywhere.

How many bounces does a bolt get in Neon Rebound?

It depends on the arena: 2 bounces on levels 1 and 2, then 3, 4 and 5, and 6 bounces from level 25 to 30. After the last allowed bounce the bolt dissolves at the next wall. The amber Rubber pickup adds 2 more bounces for 12 seconds.

Why did my own bolt knock me out in Neon Rebound?

Your bolts can hit your own tank 0.18 seconds after they leave the barrel, and a bounce often sends them back the way they came. Firing point-blank into a wall is the usual cause. Shoot along a wall at an angle and move sideways right after firing.

What is the gold Champion in Neon Rebound?

The Champion is the robot boss of level 30, the last arena of the Grand Circuit. It fights next to two ace bots, banks shots off two walls and carries a shield that soaks up one hit, so it takes two bolts to knock out. The level allows 110 seconds.

What do moving walls and cracked walls do in Neon Rebound?

Moving walls slide along an amber rail after blinking for 0.8 seconds, and they stop instead of crushing a tank. Cracked walls appear on levels 23, 25 and 29 and break after 2 hits, opening a new firing lane. Both block bolts until they move or break.

How do Quick Duels work in Neon Rebound?

A Quick Duel puts you against one bot, rookie, scout or ace, in arenas taken from the campaign. Each round lasts up to 80 seconds and the first side to win 3 rounds takes the match. There are no pickups in duels, so every round is decided by angles and dodging.
